We've got options.
What size is right for me?
Because of the varying size of pictures and videos created by your camera, it can be difficult to determine exactly how many pictures your Picture Keeper will hold. This guide should help in determining what size Picture Keeper product will best suit your needs. Since most photos today are taken with a smartphone, we put together this guide to help determine what size Picture Keeper will suit you best. If you plan on backing up your computer as well, and your pictures are taken with a high-end camera (20+ Megapixel, DSLR, or "bridge" camera) you will probably want to move up to the next largest size. The final count will depend on your phone type, camera specs, the settings you use to take your images, and if you are backing up videos. The number of files that will fit on the drive is dependent on the size of those files. We estimate that a typical "average" photo taken with a modern phone camera is about 2-3MB.
Did you know?
The file size of your photos is partly determined by what is in the photo. A photo with lots of colors, shapes, and detail will create a larger file than a simple photo with fewer colors, even at the same resolution and quality. Think about a picture of a clock on a blank wall (little detail, small file size) vs a picture of a crowd at a ball game (lots of detail, larger file size).
A good rule of thumb is that you can store about 500 pictures per 1GB of storage, so a 16GB drive will hold about 8000 pictures (on average), or about 140 minutes of video from an average smartphone.
